Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation and AARP Iowa Host BBQ Picnic

National Night Out is Thursday the 4th, and two of the things the City of Cedar Rapids is doing to celebrate are BBQ and Fitness. From a City of Cedar Rapids news release:

"The Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with AARP Iowa, will host a BBQ picnic at the FitLot™ at Jones Park, 201 Wilson Avenue Drive SW, on Thursday, August 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A brief program will be held at 12:00 p.m.

The event celebrates the addition of an AARP-sponsored fitness park that provides the benefits of indoor exercise training in an outdoor setting. The FitLot™ is free to use by individuals of all ages and adapts to meet a wide range of fitness levels and abilities. Instructors will be on-site to demonstrate how best to use the equipment. Individuals who try out the FitLot™ will be entered into a drawing for Parks and Recreation gift certificates. A free BBQ lunch will be provided while supplies last.

AARP teamed up with national non-profit FitLot™ to sponsor one FitLot™ Fitness Park in each state. AARP chose Cedar Rapids to be the Iowa recipient of the program. “We are fortunate to have been selected to receive this outdoor fitness park. It is a great addition to Jones Park,” said Hashim Taylor, Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Director. “What better way to learn how to use it than to join us for lunch and a quick demonstration.”

The Parks and Recreation Department offers a series of free fitness programs funded by AARP Iowa. A listing of fall activities will be available in the Our CR magazine mailed to homes the second week of August. It will also be available online at crrec.org August 5."
