Another roundabout is in the works in the city of Cedar Rapids, and this one is on a heavily traveled NW side street. In a news release, the City of Cedar Rapids says that Ellis Boulevard NW will be closed at E Avenue to construction a roundabout.
According to the city, "This closure is expected to be in place until approximately the end of August. Traffic to follow posted detour, or seek an alternate route. This project will span a two-year period, and construction this year includes preparation for extending 6th Street NW to the intersection of Ellis Boulevard at E Avenue and beginning renovation of existing 6th Street NW from B Avenue to 1st Avenue. Renovations include water main extension, sidewalks, railroad crossing modifications, on-street bicycle facilities, and the construction of roundabouts at E Avenue and F Avenue intersections. The Union Pacific Railroad crossings at I Avenue NW, 10th Street SE, B Avenue/C Avenue NW, the pedestrian crossing between 1 Avenue E and 2nd Avenue SE, and the pedestrian crossing between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue SE will also be closed as part of this project."
