In order for this local option sales tax to go into effect, voters have to pass it by 50% + 1. A year ago, there was a 'contiguous places' requirement, but the legislature got rid of that.
Cities are now on their own and so Des Moines, West Des Moines, Pleasant Hill and Windsor Heights which never saw a tax it didn't like, will again head to the Polls in March to be asked the same question they rejected a year ago.
If passed, it will go into effect on July 1st of THIS YEAR.
Should they even be able to go back to the voters year after year after year until they get the answer they want?
