11 rescued from Upper Iowa River

Authorities in Winneshiek County said they rescued 11 hikers stuck on an island in the Upper Iowa River Tuesday afternoon.

It happened near Chimney Park, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said one kayaker was hanging on to tree branches after losing the kayak.

Rescuers used a drone to find the group before bringing them to safety. Members in the group were between the ages of 6 and 71.
