Officials with the Waterloo Police Department are warning members of the community to be on the lookout for counterfeit bills being used.
Officers have responded to numerous reports of fake $100 bills being used at businesses in Waterloo. They said the bills are sophisticated fakes, and are hard to distinguish without careful inspection.
Authorities are suggesting that businesses be especially wary of large bills being used, especially for small purchases that maximize the amount of legitimate cash given back as change.
If a business has received a counterfeit bill, they should contact local police immediately.
