CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A judge has sentenced a repeat drug trafficker to 20 years in federal prison for trafficking in "ice" methamphetamine.
48-year-old Ryan Buchheim of Cedar Rapids in December pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Cedar Rapids Police on March 16, 2017 stopped Buchheim's car and a drug dog alerted on the car, indicating the presence of drugs. Officers found a backpack in the car containing 435 grams of "ice" meth which was more than 99 percent pure. Buchheim admitted he intended to sell the meth.
The judge sentenced Buchheim to 240 months in prison and a 10-year-term of supervised release, plus a $15,000 fine. Buchheim has a previous convictin for delivery of cocaine, and possession of psuedoephedrine knowing it would be used to make meth.
