DCI Rules Hunter Death 'Suspicious'

APPANOOSE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- The Division on Criminal Investigations (DCI) says the death of a Cedar Falls man who went missing while hunting is suspicious.

The Appanoose County Sheriff's Office said on Sunday it had found the body of Curtis Ross, a man who went missing while hunting over the weekend. Ross is 31 and from Cedar Falls.

The sheriff's office says it received a report that Ross had disappeared in a remote area of the county yesterday while hunting.

The Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office is scheduled to perform an autopsy on Ross' body on Monday. It will release more information after that is complete.

A GoFundMe page says he "passed away doing what he loved, hunting and being outdoors. He left behind so many people who loved him. This was such a sudden event it took the whole family by surprise."

That page has already raised $3,345.

The case is under investigation by the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Appanoose County Attorney, Appanoose County Medical Examiner’s Office, and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
