Hiawatha Elementary Closed due to Overheated Kiln

HIAWATHA, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Hiawatha Elementary School is closed on Friday, October 6.

The district tells TV9 there was an object in the art room kiln that got overheated and produced a large amount of smoke. There was no fire due to the object overheating.

They say they will be testing air quality to ensure it is safe for students and staff to return on Monday, October 9.
