(Iowa City, IA) -- Residents in Hills are not reacting favorably to the Iowa City Community School District's decision to close Hills Elementary at the end of the school year.
Noel Meyer, a parent of a Hills Elementary student, says kids will now have to commute to larger schools and lose that sense of close-knit community at Hills. She believes that will harm the community as a whole.
The District says school funding falling well short of inflation and costs for several years is the reason for the closure.
