(Iowa) -- The Iowa Department of Transportation says a construction project on I-80 may slow traffic near Iowa City starting Monday.

The project will reduce westbound traffic to two lanes on I-80 from mile marker 240 to mile marker 242.2 starting Monday, March 30th. Eastbound lanes in the same location will be reduced to two lanes starting on Wednesday, April 1st. The project is expected to last until the end of July.

The DOT recommends drivers drive with caution, allow plenty of space between vehicles, and follow all posted speed limits. Fines are at least double for any traffic violations within the work zone.

The latest traveler information is posted on the Iowa 511 website.
