(Iowa) -- A new report shows more new businesses are opening in Iowa.
The latest New Business Formations Report from Registered Agents shows 3,990 new businesses opened in Iowa in January of this year, a 26% increase from December of last year. That's also 9% higher from January of 2025. Iowa ranks in the top half of U.S. states with the most new business formation during that time, coming in at number 23.
Nationally, 44 states and the District of Columbia saw month-over-month new business growth between December of 2025 and January of 2026. Six states saw a drop in the number of new businesses opening during that time. The national average for new business formation from December of last year to January of this year is 18%.
