(Des Moines, IA) -- Several Iowans are receiving letters this week notifying them of changes to the federal food stamp program. Updates to SNAP eligibility rules included in the Big Beautiful Bill passed last year took effect on Sunday.
Under the new rules, many SNAP recipients must now work, volunteer, or participate in job‑training programs for at least 80 hours per month to remain eligible. Those most affected include adults ages 55 to 64, parents and caregivers of children 14 and older, as well as veterans, people experiencing homelessness, and young adults aging out of foster care.
