(Ames, IA) -- The Big 12 is fining Iowa State $500,000 after the university’s football team declined a bowl invitation.

After a team meeting over the weekend, players decided they lacked a healthy enough roster for safe practice and play. ISU notified the Big 12 Conference of its decision Sunday, just two days after Matt Campbell accepted the head coaching job at Penn State.

Washington State’s Jimmy Rogers has been named Campbell’s successor. The Cyclones finished their 2025 season with an 8-4 record.
