(Iowa) -- A new study finds Iowans spend hundreds of dollars a year on their favorite team.
Sports betting website Betting.net finds Iowa sports fans spend an average of $396 dollars a year on their favorite team including things like ticket costs and merchandise. 80% of fans say they spend more when their team is on a winning streak. 30% say they have to cut back on other expenses at times to support their team, which usually means cutting back on dining out.
Despite the spending, Iowa is tied with Oregon for the state where fans spend the least supporting their favorite team. South Carolina tops the list, with fans spending an average of $1,464 dollars per year on their team.
