DSM Man Charged With Fraud, Accused of Hacking Employer After Being Fired

A Des Moines man faces 10 years in federal prison for allegedly hacking his former employer after he was fired.

Federal prosecutors charged Ezekiel Dean Potter, a former Casey's employee, with computer fraud for accessing the company's computer system, resetting usernames and passwords, deleting information, and revoking access for some users.

The indictment says the 34-year-old kept it up for more than a year and a half following his April 2023 termination Prosecutors say Potter's actions caused widespread disruption for Casey's and resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in losses. The FBI is investigating the case with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

He faces 10 years in prison. A trial is set for June 1, 2026.
