(Iowa) -- Applications will open on Saturday for a federally-funded program aiming to help low-income families pay for their energy bills this winter.
Customers whose household incomes are 200% or below federal poverty guidelines, who have an energy burden, and can verify citizenship for all household members may qualify for funding through the the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services says the program distributes funds on a first-come first-serve basis and recommends applying as soon as possible.
Applications opened earlier this month for customers over the age of 60 or who are disabled. The application window closes at the end of April.
