(West Des Moines, IA) -- Waiting for the first frost for allergy relief? Don't count on it.
Doctor Vuong Nayima is an allergist with Iowa Allergy. ,"There is a big misconception that sound people think that once the freeze comes that everything is going to be good. It's not. Actually you still have plants that will come back once the freeze goes away and then even when the pollen is gone, they'll last for a couple weeks afterwards because of all the exposure you had before."
Farmers harvesting crops could be making things worse. Ragweed and other weeds are peaking, and farm harvests are stirring up dust, mold, and pollen. "When you harvest crops, it will kick up a lot of dust and a lot of pollen. It kicks up everything. There is mold in the soil that gets kicked up too," says Dr. Nayima.
Iowa Allergy is seeing an increase in allergy sufferers calling, like they do this time every year.
