The interim superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools is formally requesting a state audit into district finances.
State Auditor Rob Sand previously said his office wouldn't be able to request an audit on its own, but employees of the school district, members of the school board, and parents of a student in the district would be able to request an audit.
Interim DMPS Superintendent Matt Smith and the School Board announced the formal request this afternoon.
It comes after calls to look into district finances, following the arrest and resignation of former Superintendent Ian Roberts.
Roberts is accused of being in the U.S. illegally, and is facing federal firearms charges.
