(Iowa City, IA) -- University of Iowa researchers believe people in impoverished communities, with lower incomes and limited access to food, begin to experience cognitive decline earlier than others.
A UI study argues that food insecurity leads to fewer healthy options for brain and body development, while low-income jobs often cause chronic stress. Both factors can negatively impact memory and cognitive function.
The research team hopes state and federal officials will use these findings to support expanded community resources aimed at combating poverty.
