(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A new program allows Iowans to test their own water for chemicals like nitrates.
Iowa branches of The Izaak Walton League of America are rolling out the Nitrate Watch Program.
According to their website, the program equips volunteers and partner organizations with nitrate test strips and empowers them to monitor their water, and share their results.
Several Iowa rivers and streams reported high nitrate levels that in some cases lead to water use restrictions this past summer.
