ICE Releases Extensive Criminal History of Former Des Moines Superintendent

(Des Moines, IA) -- Federal authorities have released the extensive criminal and immigration history of Ian Roberts, the former Des Moines Public Schools superintendent who resigned this week.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or I-C-E, announced Friday that Roberts was criminally charged Thursday with being an illegal alien in possession of firearms. The history released by I-C-E dates back to 1996 and includes narcotics charges in New York and a 2022 weapons conviction in Pennsylvania.

The documents also reveal that an immigration judge had ordered Roberts removed from the United States in May of 2024.

Roberts is currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshals, and there is no parole in the federal system.
