(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Items belonging to murder victim Melody Hoffman were found by police in the home of Dakota Van Patten. That's what a Linn County jury heard during day one of testimony in Van Patten's first-degree murder trial.

Prosecutors say police found Hoffman's glasses, along with a knife and rope they say were used in the killing.

Police found Hoffman's body in Amana Lily Lake in February last year.

McKinley Louisma is serving a life sentence for Hoffman's murder.

Logan Kimpton goes to trial accused of involvement in the crime in November.
