(Johnson County, IA) -- Johnson County's Sheriff is pulling his support for a joint law enforcement headquarters and jail facility with Iowa City.

Sheriff Brad Kunkel now says the county should go alone on the project.

Kunkel told a press conference Thursday that the city doesn't seem to be on the same page as the county, especially in sharing the urgency of getting the project going.

Kunkel says he's still confident that the county can get 60% voter approval for a new jail on the November 2026 ballot.
