(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- An independent study is confirming concerns over the risks to an Iowa airport from a planned energy plant.

The study commissioned by the Cedar Rapids Airport Commission says plumes from 200-foot smokestacks at a planned Alliant Energy facility in Fairfax would interfere with planes taking off and landing at Eastern Iowa Airport.

A Gazette report says the study indicates the smokestacks could jeopardize the airport's federal safety and regulatory compliance.

Airport officials say talks with Alliant and the city of Fairfax to resolve the flight path concerns are ongoing.
