Iowa U.S. Senator Joni Ernst is officially announcing she will not seek re-election in 2026
The Republican officially made the announcement on social media on Tuesday, after reports last week said she would not run for another six years in the Senate.
"Having been raised in a family who was given me so much love and support, now, as our family ages and grows, it's my time for me to give back to them," Ernst said in her announcement.
She was first elected to the Senate in 2014, and was re-elected in 2020.
