'Northern Lights' Possible In Nebraska And Iowa

(Midwest) -- A strong geomagnetic storm is expected to create bright northern lights tonight and overnight, provided clouds stay out of the way for viewing.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association Space Weather Prediction Center reports a prolonged solar flare that peaked Saturday.

The strongest geomagnetic wave from the storm will hit earth's atmosphere today, and bright northern lights are expected as far south as Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois tonight.

The energy wave could also interfere with radio and satellite signals.
