(Des Moines, IA) -- School security measures are being considered by Iowa state lawmakers following this week's school shooting in Minnesota after failing to take action on recommendations during the spring session this year.

A School Safety Task Force recommended 14 violence prevention methods, including facility upgrades for classroom security and visitor vetting plans. Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley says legislators are now actively pursuing safety improvements to prevent school shooting tragedies.

Iowa Association of School Boards member Michelle Johnson says most school districts are left to decide which safety measures they want to implement with or without new state laws.
