(Sioux City, IA) -- For the first time in three years, the Republican supermajority in the Iowa Senate is broken.
Democrat Catelin Drey has won the special election for the Senate District One seat in Woodbury County. Unofficial results show Drey defeated Republican Christopher Prosch with fifty-five percent of the vote. The seat was left vacant after Republican Senator Rocky De Witt died in June.
Drey will serve the remainder of the term, which ends in January of twenty-twenty-seven.
