(Iowa) -- The Iowa Department of Public Safety is bringing attention to fentanyl overdoses on National Fentanyl Awareness and Prevention Day.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine. The Department of Public Safety says that just two milligrams of the drug can be deadly, and most people who take fentanyl don't know they are taking it.

According to the CDC, over 450 people died from drug overdoses in Iowa in 2023.
