(Des Moines, IA) -- With the new school year less than two weeks away, Iowa is facing a severe shortage of teachers.

The Iowa Department of Education says there are at least 650 teaching vacancies statewide.

The most critical needs are in the areas of special education, English, Science, world languages, and music.

Some school districts are considering increasing class sizes to compensate, but critics worry that could compromise the quality of education.

Statewide teaching job postings and a list of shortage areas can be found on the Teach Iowa website. You can find it by clicking here.
