(Ames, IA) -- A man booked into the Story County Jail in Ames is accused of stealing more than $60-thousand dollars worth of electronics from Iowa State University.
"A lot of it was classroom technology equipment, in some cases robotics equipment, cameras. I think anything the person could get and place on Ebay, which is what helped us track the suspect down." Said Iowa State Police Chief Michael Newton.
"We've actually traced one case back to 2024. It was a more than $22-thousand dollar camera and we've been able to track that theft back to the suspect." he said.
The multiple charges against 45-year-old Donovan Dean Cirksena of Des Moines include burglary, breaking and entering, theft, fraud, and ongoing criminal activity.
Newton says the $60-thousand dollar price tag could go higher.
"There's still other pieces of equipment that we're trying to track down and locate that we believe are involved in this. You know, Ebay's an interesting place. We've served some subpeonas for items on Ebay. They are getting us purchase records and we'll try to get back some of the items that were sold." Newton said.
Cirksena's being held on $125-thousand dollars bond.
