(Ottumwa, IA) -- Two hundred workers are losing their temporary H-1B visas and their jobs at the JBS meat processing plant in Ottumwa.

"JBS has been issuing 200 notices to people from Haiti, Cuba, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. These people had work visas, but they have been revoked, and the Supreme Court has upheld those revocations," said Ottumwa Mayor Rick Johnson.

He says the workers are being told their jobs are terminated effective immediately, and they must leave the United States right away.

"I believe they are giving people $1,000 to help with self-deportation out of the United States and back to their home country," said Johnson.

JBS has 2,000 employees at the Ottumwa plant.
