(Washington, DC) -- Seven Midwest governors are signing onto a bill introduced in Congress opposing a California regulation that they say will increase the cost of pork and eggs.
Iowa Congresswoman Ashley Hinson is introducing the Save Our Bacon Act.
The bill is a response to California's Proposition 12 that requires pork and eggs sold in California to come from farms where animals have a specific amount of space.
The Iowa Farm Bureau argues that the California proposition unfairly dictates the production systems of other states, and will drive up pork and egg prices.
The U.S. Supreme Court already upheld Prop 12 two years ago.
