An Oregon man charged in the 1983 murder of a Linn County man will go to trial in early 2026.
64-year-old Michael Schappert pleaded not guilty this month in the death of 24-year-old Ron Novak, who was killed in rural Linn County on Christmas Eve 1983.
Investigators say Schappert was linked to the crime through blood and trace DNA found on Novak’s clothing, and a hammer believed to be the murder weapon.
He is scheduled to appear in court for trial starting February 24th.
