(Davenport, IA) -- Two eastern Iowa universities are merging.
St. Ambrose University in Davenport and Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids are announcing a merger plan designed to make both campuses more student-centered.
University leaders say sharing resources will create long-term viability for both schools.
The project is expected to be completed sometime next year.
The U.S. Department of Education will have to give final approval of the merger.
