(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The mayor of Cedar Rapids is responding to questions about the city dropping the name of a planned bridge over the Cedar River.
Until recently the structure that will span 8th Avenue was called the Arc of Justice Bridge--after a phrase attributed to Dr. Martin Luther King Junior regarding equality.
At a recent Council meeting a citizen said he was told the city changed the name to 8th Avenue Bridge over fear of losing $65-million in federal funding for the project.
In a social media post, Mayor Tiffany O'Donnell says the name is not as important as securing the funding.
