(DES MOINES, IA) -- Health officials are raising concerns about Iowa's low measles immunization rate after three cases were confirmed in the state since May.
According to the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, the vaccination rate for two-year-olds is 84 percent, below the 95 percent needed for herd immunity. An Iowa immunization expert says rates have declined for various reasons and worries about an outbreak if the virus hits a community with low vaccination rates.
The most recent case of measles was reported in an unvaccinated child in Eastern Iowa.
