Report: Minnesota shooting suspect took online classes at DMACC

The suspect in the fatal shooting of Minnesota Democratic State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband reportedly took online classes at Des Moines Area Community College.

That's according to the New York Times, citing a DMACC spokesperson who said Vance Boelter took classes in the school's mortuary science program in 2023 and 2024, primarily an online program. The Times also cited a video posted by Boelter that stated he worked six days a week for two funeral service companies in the Minneapolis area.

Boelter was taken into custody on Sunday night, and turned over to federal authorities on Monday. He's due in court on Monday afternoon. He's also accused of shooting Democratic State Senator Jeff Hoffman and his wife a total of 17 times in a separate shooting on Saturday morning. Both remain hospitalized as of Monday morning.

Authorities say Boelter disguised himself as a police officer at both Rep. Hortman and Senator Hoffman's home.
