(Marion, IA) -- The city of Marion is introducing guidelines to distinguish homeowners looking to establish natural prairie landscapes on their properties from those who just aren't mowing.

Updates will add a naturalistic landscape policy and permits to the city ordinance.

Marion's Parks & Rec Director tells the Cedar Rapids Gazette that the change tackles a gray area that left the determination of what was a prairie and what was weeds to a city enforcement officer.

Marion will introduce an application process for those who wish to grow prairie on their property in the coming weeks.
