(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Cedar Rapids will now have shorter street names.

City Council is passing an ordinance that limits the name of future streets to 14-characters not including road, drive, or street, or a NW or SE designation.

The restriction doesn't affect existing streets, just new ones.

City staff say the limit will lessen confusion for drivers and help first responders.
