Iowa Man Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison After Crashing Into Deputy’s Car

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A Hiawatha man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after crashing into a deputy’s vehicle and grabbing a loaded weapon.

U.S. Marshals attempted to arrest 25-year-old Nathan Jiles on a felony warrant in May 2024. During the arrest, Jiles tried to escape by ramming his car into a deputy’s vehicle and grabbing a loaded firearm.

Law enforcement was able to apprehend Jiles after tasing him several times. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including assault on a federal officer.
