(North LIberty, IA) -- A mistake placing a newspaper ad could cost the city of North Liberty $1.3-million in tax revenue.
City staff missed a deadline to advertise a public budget meeting before it was held last month.
According to Iowa law, the city now can't finalize it's 2025-26 budget.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that city leaders are asking state lawmakers to help by passing an exemption to the law, otherwise the city will need to dip into reserves.
North Liberty City Council will meet tonight to schedule a makeup public meeting for late this month.
