(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa Republicans in the House and Senate have reached an agreement on the state budget for next year. The state government will spend $9.428 billion under the current proposal, an increase of $478 million over Fiscal Year 2025, or 5.3%. The deal includes $14 million for paraeducator pay, a priority House Speaker Pat Grassley said last week his caucus was holding out for. The plan would dip into about $900 million in state reserve funds. Lawmakers will head home for the weekend, and are one step closer to adjourning for the year.
