(Des Moines, IA) -- An Iowa State Senator has filed a resolution seeking the reversal of a Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage. Senate Concurrent Resolution 3, introduced by State Sen. Sandy Salmon (R-Janesville), would ask the US Supreme Court to reverse the 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision.
The resolution reads in part "...liberty has long been understood as individual freedom from governmental action, not as a right to a particular governmental entitlement...Obergefell invokes a definition of liberty that the framers would not have recognized, rejecting the idea captured in the Declaration of Independence that human dignity is innate, and instead suggesting that liberty comes from the government..."
The resolution was filed Wednesday and referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
