(IOWA CITY, IA) — New Iowa men’s basketball coach Ben McCollum will earn $3.35 million in his first year under a six-year contract.

The compensation includes a $500,000 base salary and $2.85 million in supplemental income, with additional performance-based bonuses available. His total annual compensation is set to increase each year, reaching $4.1 million by the final year of the deal in 2030 and 2031. If McCollum leaves the program early, he would owe the University of Iowa $5 million if he departs before April 1, 2026, with the buyout decreasing by $1 million each subsequent year. If Iowa terminates McCollum without cause, the university would owe him 80% of his remaining compensation during the first three years, and 60% in the final three years.
