(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- An updated bond proposal presented to the Cedar Rapids Community School District Board last night seems to be getting much higher support.

The revised plan would fund major renovations at McKinley, Wilson, and Roosevelt Middle Schools, and Kennedy High School, and drop a proposed $100-plus million dollar middle school to replace Harding.

Initial polling shows 68% support for the new plan versus 55% for the old.

The bond needs 60% at the polls to pass.

New supporters say the tax burden is much easier to vote in favor of at half the rate of the old plan.
