(Iowa) -- The Iowa Supreme Court has ruled an Iowa magistrate will be removed from the bench after multiple complaints.

Fayette County Magistrate David Hanson, who has practiced law for over 36 years, has been deemed unfit after multiple complaints. One complaint regarded his response to a 2022 sexual assault case involving a 15-year-old boy, in which he dismissed the allegations as absurd. Another involved his use of a racial slur in a 2023 court hearing. The unanimous decision ruled that Hanson is simply and unalterably unsuited to be a judge and is unable to preside over any proceedings involving sexual assault. His removal takes effect in 9 days.
