(Des Moines, IA) -- Governor Kim Reynolds has signed a bill that lowers the minimum age to carry or purchase a handgun in Iowa from 21 to 18.

House File 924 aligns Iowa’s age requirements for handgun ownership more closely with federal standards, which already allow 18-year-olds to possess handguns under certain conditions. The law takes effect July 1st.
