The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for various soup and bowl products due to potential contamination with wood. The alert, announced on Friday (April 11), affects products containing cilantro, an ingredient regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which was found to contain foreign material.
The affected products include soups from well-known brands like Campbell's, Molly's, Healthy Request, and others. According to FSIS, these items were distributed to retail and institutional locations in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. The alert is not a formal recall but serves to inform consumers of potential health risks.
Consumers are advised to either discard the products or return them to the place of purchase. The FSIS warns that additional products may be added to the alert, which could lead to nationwide impacts. The full list of affected products can be found on the FSIS website.
The alert includes several chicken-based soups from Campbell's, such as Chicken Tortilla Soup and Baja-Style Chicken Enchilada Soup. Campbell's spokesperson clarified that the soups mentioned in the alert are food-service varieties not sold in retail stores.
