ABC News will keep GMA3: What You Need to Know on the air despite mass layoffs by its parent company, the Disney Corporation, that gutted the show's production staff, the New York Post reported on Tuesday (March 18).
Almin Karamehmedovic, who took over as ABC News' president last summer, will reportedly address the show's staff during a meeting in New York on Tuesday afternoon, which was scheduled last week amid dozens of layoffs.
“ABC News has no intention of doing away with ‘GMA3,'” a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to the New York Post.
The GMA3 staff layoffs, which included executive producer Catherine McKenzie, were part of a reported 200 cuts made throughout the Disney Entertainment Networks, the source confirmed. GMA3: What You Need to Know is an afternoon spin-off of the flagship ABC News morning show Good Morning America.
Good Morning America executive producer Simone Swink has been designated to oversee all GMA-branded programming through various time slots. Other notable leadership reshuffling included Seni Tienabeso being promoted to vice president of ABC News, which will include managing specialized reporting across digital streaming platforms.
Additionally, long-form content divisions, which include ABC News Studios, 20/20, Nightline and Impact x Nightline, will fall under one leadership umbrella moving foward.
